How to turn a voice message into text
Save the voice note as a file
Use the app's share, export or download option to keep the voice message or voice memo as an audio file on your phone or computer.
Drop it here
Drag the file into the tool at the top of this page, or tap to pick it from your files. Opus, OGG, M4A, MP3 and WAV all work.
Pick the language and transcribe
Choose the spoken language, or keep auto-detect on, and start. The text streams in as your browser transcribes.
Read, copy or download
Fix any word against the audio, then copy the text or download it as a TXT file.
Voice Message to Text: Read a WhatsApp, Telegram or iPhone Voice Note
Someone sent you a four-minute voice note and you cannot play it right now. Save the voice message as a file, drop it on this page, and read it as text. Whisper AI writes the transcript in your browser, so a personal message is not sent to a server. Free, no account, no minutes cap, no watermark.
How voice message transcription works here
A Whisper AI speech-recognition model loads into your browser and turns the voice note into text on your own device. WhatsApp, Telegram and iPhone voice notes are ordinary audio files (Opus, OGG or M4A), so they open as saved, with nothing to convert first. The text appears line by line, ready to copy, fix or download.
Voice note formats it reads
Each messaging app saves voice notes in its own format. All of these open as they are, without converting first.
- WhatsApp voice notes: usually .opus files
- Telegram voice messages: .ogg files with Opus audio (also .oga)
- iPhone Voice Memos and most phone recorders: .m4a files
- Anything else: MP3, WAV, AAC and FLAC, plus the audio track of a video message (MP4, MOV, WebM)
When reading beats listening
Somewhere you cannot play audio
In a meeting, on a train, in a library, or late at night: read the voice note instead of holding the phone to your ear.
Long voice notes
A ten-minute voice message takes ten minutes to hear. As text, you can skim it, jump to the part that matters, and answer the question it asked.
Old chats and saved notes
Turn voice notes you kept from an old chat, or a folder of exported memos, into text you can search and keep.
Instructions, addresses and to-dos
Copy the address, the phone number or the list of tasks out of a voice message and paste it straight into your notes, a ticket or a reply.
Deaf and hard-of-hearing readers
Friends and family send voice notes out of habit. A transcript lets you read what they said, with every line replayable if a word looks wrong.
A voice note in another language
Whisper writes the text in the language that was spoken, which is often easier to follow than fast speech. Copy it into a translator if you need it in yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert a voice message to text?
Save the voice message as an audio file, drop it into the tool at the top of this page, pick the spoken language or keep auto-detect, and start. The transcript appears on your screen, ready to copy or download as a TXT file. It is free, with no account.
How do I transcribe a WhatsApp voice message?
Save or share the voice message out of the chat as a file (WhatsApp voice notes are usually .opus files), then drop that file here. If the note is on your phone and you would rather work on a computer, send the file to yourself first. The .opus file opens as it is, with no converting.
Can I turn a Telegram voice message into text?
Yes. Telegram voice messages are .ogg files with Opus audio. Save the voice message from the chat, for example from Telegram Desktop, and drop the .ogg file here to read it as text.
How do I transcribe an iPhone voice memo?
Share or save the memo from the Voice Memos app as a file (it is an .m4a), open this page on the iPhone or on a computer, and drop the file in. Download the transcript as plain text when it is done.
Doesn't WhatsApp already transcribe voice messages?
WhatsApp has a setting for voice message transcripts inside the chat (described in its help center, checked in October 2026), and it is handy for a note you have just received. This page is for the rest: a voice note you saved earlier, a long one you want to copy as text, or notes from other apps.
Is my voice message uploaded anywhere?
No. The voice note is transcribed on your own device and is not sent to a server. Only the AI model is downloaded, once, and your browser keeps it for next time.
Which files can I use?
Opus, OGG and OGA (WhatsApp and Telegram), M4A (iPhone Voice Memos), plus MP3, WAV, AAC and FLAC, and video messages in MP4, MOV or WebM. Files up to 2 GB and 4 hours. AMR files from some older call recorders are not supported.
Is there a limit on how many voice notes I can transcribe?
No. There is no daily limit, no per-minute price and no account. Transcribe as many voice messages as you like, one file at a time.
Tips for a better voice note transcript
Use the original file: save the voice note itself rather than a screen recording of it, which adds noise and loses quality.
Set the language by hand for very short notes. A five-second clip gives auto-detect little to work with.
Several voice notes from one chat? Transcribe them one after another; the AI model is downloaded once and then reused.
Check names and numbers: click a line to replay that part of the voice note before you copy an address or a phone number.
